DESCRIPTION
The University of Tennessee Space Institute offers a program leading to the Master of Science degree with a major in aviation systems. Aviation systems is a unique blend of aerospace engineering, aviation technology, flight science, and flight test engineering and research. The aviation systems program is designed for those who possess a bachelor's degree in engineering or science and wish to study under a system philosophy toward careers in research and development or administration in areas pertinent to aviation and aerospace. Current emphasis include flight testing, aircraft performance and flying qualities, aircraft design, atmospheric and earth/ocean science, airborne sensing, and human factors.
SPECIAL ENROLLMENT ISSUES
Both thesis and non-thesis programs are available. Also available for qualified students is a limited number of research assistantships to involve the student in the on going research as well as provide competitive financial assistance.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for admission to this program, the applicant must possess a bachelor's degree in engineering or science from an accredited institution, show evidence of ability to pursue and benefit from the program, and fulfill the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, graduate admission procedures and grade point standards. It is expected that the student will have completed course-work in calculus and physics, and preferably aerodynamics, air-craft performance, or other aerospace-related subjects.
ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
The Bookstore is located in Lower C-Wing of the Main Building. The Bookstore hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. All textbooks will be returned to the publisher one week after midterm. UTSI, as an integral part of The University of Tennessee System, can take advantage of the many resources of this major institution. ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
Students attending the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) have access to several types of financial aid. Awards are made primarily to full-time students and most are based on academic merit rather than demonstrated need. Although there are no deadlines for submitting assistantship/fellowship applications, awards will be made as opportunities become available. Therefore, early submission enhances a student's chance of receiving an offer.
